Nowadays half of all diabetics remain un-diagnosed, we want to get them diagnosed early enough to prevent the consequences of diabetes.
There are multiple effective ways in which to diagnose diabetes, but the problem with them is that people are not getting tested with those exams.
There are three big filters that leads them not to get tested.
The first filter are the symptoms and risk factors. When a patient shows symptoms or fits the risk factor they would usually go to the doctor, where they are suggested (or urged depending on the severity) to get tested, but diabetes in its early stages shows little to no symptoms, so many do not get tested as there is not apparent reason to do so. For this reason patients spend in average more than 5 years with un-diagnosed diabetes, untreated until the symptoms appear.
Then, there is the motivation to go to a doctor, as many do not go to the doctor on a regular basis, and most affordable and comprehensive tests available for public use require either a physician extracting a sample, the purchase of a complete kit or a lengthy process that people end avoiding.
And finally, if they decide to go to the doctor and the doctor requests further examination, patients usually drop out before getting tested as the exams used for screening diabetes are invasive and involve additional waiting times, as they can not be performed in the doctor’s appointment.
Our product aims to solve these complications, and provide a user friendly product that can be used in any of these scenarios, so people can be sure if they are at risk or not.

Business Description

It works by using advanced materials that provide an accurate measurement of indicators present in saliva. Similar to a pregnancy test, it uses a lateral flow assay where the saliva is placed and in minutes it indicates through visual results if there is a high concentration of such indicators.

People using the device just have to place a saliva sample on a provided sample container and wait a couple of minutes.
The strip contains designed molecules that bind with specific RNA sequences in saliva that increase if the the user has diabetes. The test strip will get colored if the person a high amount of such indicator.
This test is designed to provide a rapid screening of diabetes that relies on a non invasive methods so it can be used in a wider range of situations with less requirements.

We will sell our product to companies that provide treatment products or services so they can distribute or use it as a rapid screening device that will allow them to detect potential customers.
They would could either sell the product as an Over The Counter device so people could use it at home, they could sell or distribute it through health care providers for a rapid check during consultations or use it in healthcare event in private or public environments.

The current expenditure on diabetes accounts for 9.1% of the total health expenditure in Europe, an early detection of the disease could allow the patients (with diabetes and pre-diabetes) to start a treatment to prevent the consequences of the disease, a treatment that would improve the health of the ones benefited and be cost-effective for the healthcare providers, reducing the expenditure on diabetes and improving their quality of life. Expenditure on treatment is an investment to reduce the economic impact of untreated diabetes, but this would only be possible if it’s detected early enough.
